Hello KVRF members and supporters,
Here’s an update on your community radio station:
Happy First Birthday KVRF 89.5 FM! On August 22, 2011, Mike Chmielewski and the broadcast engineer connected a smart phone to the transmitter in Sutton. They then drove around Sutton and listened to the music coming over 89.5 FM. It was like magic. After years of work, we were able to send out a signal (and meet the requirements of our FCC construction permit). We still had no way to broadcast from the studio and were still working to get the translator on Lazy Mountain. Regular broadcasting of music started a month later when MTA installed the DSL line to the transmitter. The first show, the Mike and Dave Show, debuted in mid-October. Here’s what’s happening now:
The new Programming Schedule started on July 15. We’ve added two new programs, Making Contact on Mondays at 5 pm and Peace Talk Radio on Fridays at 5 pm. The Citizen Lobbyist now joins Mike on Thursday mornings with a rebroadcast at 5 pm on Thursday.
KVRF Branded App for your smart phone is coming soon. You will be able to access our FM stream, our meeting stream, the podcasts, and the website with this new app. We are excited to offer this app with the help of MTA.
KVRF is the radio station of the State Fair. We will be broadcasting events, schedules, interviews, and more. Get the branded app for your Android phone or iPhone and keep connected at the Fair! Let us know if you are interested in volunteering at the Fair by emailing manager@radiofreepalmer.org.
Get involved. This is your radio station. You can help shape the programming, learn broadcast skills, and more. Here are some options:
• Join a Community Advisory Board: A Sutton group and a Palmer group will weigh in on how the radio station can meet community needs
• Learn to engineer a show: We need several more people who can run the board to record shows or broadcast shows.
• Develop your own show: Local talk shows include Bridge to Everywhere, Tech Talk, and What’s For Dinner Mom; local music shows include The Ride, Matanuska Mountain Music, The Grade, Tropical Aloha, Teen Talk, Where It All Began, and a new jazz show. Many shows are pre-recorded for broadcast.
• Staff the office: 2 hour shifts or 4 hour shifts Monday- Friday, 10 am – noon, noon – 2 pm, or 10 am – 2 pm.
• Share your skills: If you have a specific skill to offer, let us know. We can find a way for you to use that skill.
• Renew your membership or make an extra donation today. Just click on the Paypal link in the upper right corner of the Radio Free Palmer website.
Just email manager@radiofreepalmer.org if you’re interested in any of these options. We’d love to hear from you!
