Dear Radio Free Palmer Members,
What a wild ride it’s been! Radio Free Palmer has been broadcasting for almost a year on KVRF, 89.5 FM, to the Palmer, Sutton, Chickaloon, and the Butte areas. A great crew of volunteers staff the office; stream borough assembly and school board meetings; produce local radio shows; and listen.
Businesses such as MVFCU, MEA, MTA, Silva Insurance, Fence Emporium, AT&T, and REM Data have supported us. Yet we are a community radio station – that means we exist of, for, and by our listeners and members. It’s membership dues that pay the rent, the electric bill, the Internet bill, the insurance, and the copyright fees.
With your support we have accomplished much in the past year:
• Gone on the air 24/7
• Broadcast live from the State Fair six hours per day every day of the Fair.
• Developed responsive, local programming – Matanuska Mountain Music, Where It All Began, Tropical Aloha, Dancing Bear, Jazz, Mushing Radio, the Citizen Lobbyist, Tech Talk, and Bridge to Everywhere.
• Made finding programs easier with a revised schedule.
• Streamed borough assembly and school board meetings.
• Added select national programs – Making Contact, Peace Talk Radio, and American Routes.
• Provided improved web site access to our archived recordings.
• We are particularly excited about the branded KVRF app for iPhones
and Android phones
In the coming year we will:
• Continue to improve the quality of our audio broadcast.
• Develop local shows about food, agriculture, seniors, health tips, and a Valley Edition weekly roundup of news analysis.
• Convene Community Advisory Boards in Palmer and in Sutton to make sure we are in touch with the community needs.
• Work with borough emergency services to be a communication channel.
• Install generators at the transmitter, translator, and studio for emergency use.
• Offer an increasing variety of training and volunteering opportunities.
If you liked what we’ve done, renew your membership today. If possible, give a little more than you gave last year. We value your support. Our new monthly donation plan makes it easier than ever to donate. Just go to radiofreepalmer.org and follow the guide.
This is the community’s radio station and it works best if the community is engaged.
Thank you for being part of your station, KVRF, Big Cabbage Radio.
Yours in community,
Lee Henrikson
President, Radio Free Palmer Board
