It was a great annual meeting on March 23 at the Depot. The snacks from Turkey Red were tasty. Elise Patkotak gave a marvelous talk on storytelling and how radio tells the stories of a community. She drew from her experience as a host for 10 years on KBRW in Barrow. Diana Z followed up with songs and stories. We especially enjoyed the Mexico story.
The Board decided to start a volunteer of the year program. The 2013 volunteer of the year is Jack Horner. He has been streaming and recording the Borough Assembly Meetings for Radio Free Palmer since at least 2009. We presented him with an etched mug.
After 4 years on the board, and many more years as our bookkeeper, Carolyn Covington stepped down. She has been an incredibly hard worker for the station and will be missed. She received a special award, Board Member Extraordinaire. Thank you Carolyn!
The slate of candidates were approved by acclamation. Bill Tull and Brian Mead are returning to the Board. New Board members are Judy Gette, Alex Munoz, Houston Snyder, and Becky Stoppa. Congratulations everyone! They are joining LaMarr Anderson, Lee Henrikson, and John Robertson.
A favorite part of the meeting was seeing the volunteers At one point, all of them stood up. Later, the program hosts were introduced to everyone. It was fun to put names to the voices on the air.
