Stay Safe in the Storm

Jan 3, 2022 | News, Uncategorized

Wed. Jan. 5 Update: Schools are still closed. MEA has about 2000 members remaining without power. Many businesses remain closed due to damage. Roads are still very slick. It’s still cold.

Mon. Jan. 3: The advice today is shelter in place. If you need someplace warm to go to, the Red Cross has opened 2 warming stations:

The Curtis D. Menard Sports Center at 1001 S Clapp St, Wasilla, AK 99654: Status: OPEN

The Palmer Shelter will be at Palmer JUNIOR MIDDLE School starting at 8 pm on Mon. Jan. 3. These centers will be open overnight for individuals needing a warm place to sleep. They are also still available as warming centers for those that simply need to warm up, charge their electronics, and enjoy a hot beverage. Over the next 24-hours, The Red Cross will continue to monitor the situation and work with our partners and borough administration in the event that a sustained 24-hour shelter is needed beyond Monday evening.

CLOSING TUE. Night: Mat-Su Senior Services Center in Palmer, 1132 S Chugach St, Palmer, AK 99645

The Borough offices are closed today. Schools are closed today. Many businesses are closed today. If you need to go somewhere, call and make sure they are open.

Roads can have glare ice or drifts and/or no visibility due to windblown snow. Be careful if you need to drive. Drifts can be invisible in whiteout until you drive into them.
